March 27, 2018 – Three National Finalists Announced for 2018 Design & Construction Competition

Using as inspiration Aristotle’s guidance “What we learn, we learn by doing” CIRT announced today this year’s CIRT National Design & Construction Competition’s three national finalists. After receiving a record-setting 60 entries representing 26 Affiliates/Chapters from across the country the finalist will compete in a presentation round in conjunction with the CIRT Spring Conference in Washington, DC on April 30, 2018. The national finalists are as follows: 

  • ACE Mentor Program of Central Iowa: for their Flexible Home entry: “One Shell of a House;”
  • ACE Mentor Program of Washington (Seattle/Team 2) for their Urban Block entry: “Releasing the Dragon;”
  • ACE Mentor Program of Central Florida: Lyman H.S. Team for their Ideal School entry: “Delta Design.”

March 8, 2018 – CIRT National Competition Attracts Record Number of Entries

With the March 7th deadline now passed for submissions to the 2018 CIRT National Design & Construction Competition, it appears that a record number of entries have been submitted. Working with the Chicago Architecture Foundation again this year, the online platform had 60 team entries from 16 different states submitted by midnight on Wednesday.  Read more...


January 12, 2018 - The final step for ACE Mentor entries to the 2018 CIRT Design & Construction Competition has gone live. The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), working in conjunction with CIRT to provide an online digital platform for the competition, announced that the “submission” portal is now open and operational for ACE mentor teams to actually submit a completed entry for judging. This year’s competition is centered around three challenge options: Flexible Home; Revitalize an Urban Block; and Envisioning an Ideal School. The student teams are urged to consider: “What we learn, we learn by doing!” (Aristotle).


Sept. 27, 2017 - The twelfth annual CIRT National Design and Construction Competition, which is coordinated with the ACE Mentor Program of America and the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), went “live” today as part of a nation-wide announcement that was disseminated to ACE Affiliates. Again, this year, the competition will utilize a digital platform hosted by CAF to enable teams to not only submit their entries through the web-based portal, but also to have the option of actually working collaboratively online as they develop their projects. ACE Teams are invited to submit their proposals for one of three challenge options: (i) Flexible Home; (ii) Revitalize an Urban Block; or (iii) Envisioning an Ideal School. Final submissions are due by March 7, 2018; with three national finalists squaring-off in a live presentation round at the CIRT Spring Conference in Washington, DC on Monday, April 30, 2018.
